SMIIC has officially designated 17 May as World Halal Standards Day, marking the anniversary of the first adoption of OIC/SMIIC halal standards on 17 May 2011 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The theme for the 2nd World Halal Standards Day (17 May 2025) is:
“Innovating Halal: Embracing Food Tech and Sustainability with OIC/SMIIC Standards.”

Member States and relevant institutions are encouraged to mark the occasion through celebration messages, awareness campaigns, and events such as webinars and seminars.
