The Tenth Meeting of the SMIIC General Assembly (GA) was held in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey on 17 December 2016. SMIIC General Secretariat hosted the meeting. The opening address was made Mr. Sebahittin KORKMAZ, Chairman of BOD of SMIIC.
Nabil A. MOLLA, the Secretary General of GCC Standardization Organisation (GSO) delivered his speech in which he mentioned the importance of the cooperation between GSO and SMIIC in their fields of activity.
Adel AL-SAQER, the Director General of Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO), addressed to the SMIIC GA Members expressing their willingness to cooperate with SMIIC.
In his message, H.E. Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, the Secretary General of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), expressed the continuous support of the OIC for SMIIC and its activities in its fields of competence.
The opening ceremony continued with a welcome speech delivered by The Minister of Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, Dr. Faruk ÖZLÜ as the host country. In his speech, he underlined that as Turkey paid great importance to every institute of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and with the potential in its field of activity, SMIIC had greater importance.

Representatives of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), SMIIC Metrology Committee (MC), Accreditation Committee (AC), COMCEC, ICYF-DC, GSO, AIDMO, Qatar General Organization for Standardization attended the meeting as observers.
The General Secretariat briefed the General Assembly by presenting a comprehensive report on the latest developments and activities of SMIIC, Technical Committees (TCs) and SMIIC/CCA. Representative of Metrology and Accreditation Committees also briefed the GA on the recent activities carried out. During the meeting, two supplementary documents of SMIIC Strategic Plan 2016-2020 were approved and it was decided to extend the term of office of existing thirteen (13) members of the Board of Directors (BOD) until the end of 2017.
