ESMA supports ARSO to understand the requirements of the UAE Halal system

The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology – ESMA, has implemented its second activities in 2020 by organizing a training course for the requirements of the UAE system for the control of halal products, for members of the African Standardization Organization (ARSO) which represents the largest regional grouping for standardization bodies on the continent of Africa.

The training is a part of the UAE Program for Technical Assistance, to Countries and as a contribution to raising the technical capabilities in the field of standardization.

The African Standardization Organization (ARSO) was a guest of 5th session of the international halal industry platform, which was organized by ESMA last week, to know about the UAE system for Halal. In presence of 23 members of the ARSO.

This comes in a context parallel to the study of ARSO of the Emirati system and its remarkable results globally during the past years, as the organization conducts standard comparisons of the national halal system, to study the possibility of its application at the level of the 37 member states of the organization.

Training program

Eng. Khalaf Khalaf, Director of Standards Department at ESMA, said that the training program designed for members of the organization touched on a full explanation of the requirements of the UAE system for controlling halal products, in the presence of the vice president of the organization and the general secretary, and members representing the leaders of standardization bodies in Africa countries.

The UAE-Africa relations are witnessing remarkable progress, as the trade exchange is estimated at 44 billion dollars by the end of 2018, of which 5.7 billion dollars is the volume of non-oil exports, which represents 13% of the total exports, which means more economic opportunities in the food and beverage sector Halal. Khalaf said.

The UAE is seeking to open new investment horizons and economic opportunities, and it is also expanding the deployment of the UAE Halal system, which has gained international popularity, while the training program was provided by Engineer Basem Tarawneh, a food specifications specialist, and Jawaher Al-Dhahoury, a specifications researcher.
