SMIIC Technical Committee on Halal Food Issues – TC 1 published a new standard: OIC/SMIIC 22:2021 – Halal Edible Gelatine – Requirements and Test Methods
The new standard provides information about the specific requirements and test methods for Halal edible gelatine. The standard which includes Islamic rules and technical requirements, is aimed to be a guide for the production of Halal and safe edible gelatin that is suitable for human consumption.
Edible gelatine is widely used by the food industry in the production of confectionery, ice-creams, jellies, chocolates and sweets etc.
The standards development process incorporated hours of hard work from experts from the TC1 Member States and from the International Fiqh Academy who worked through step by step every aspect of the document producing the final standard.
