SMIIC 2017 Technical Committee Week 3 Meetings

SMIIC 2017 Technical Committee (TC) Week 3 Meetings were held on the 25-30 September 2017 in İstanbul, Turkey with the participation of over 70 delegates from Algeria, Malaysia, Sudan, Senegal, Iran, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey, Palestine, Pakistan, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Thailand, International Islamic Fiqh Academy and Turkish Cypriot State.

The meeting schedule was as follows:

 TC1 Halal Food Issues:

TC1 is continuing revision study of OIC/SMIIC 1 General Halal Food Guidelines as CD1, during the meeting most of the comments received for the CD1 were discussed, comments for sections not discussed will be circulated to members for balloting. New Work item proposals(NP) were discussed and possible future NP suggestions that will be submitted were:

  • Pakistan : NP about Halal Gelatine
  • Turkey : NP about Detection of Gelatine, L-cyctein, Monosodiumglutamat (MSG) via LC-MS-MS, Halal Food contact Materials, Halal Packaging
  • Sudan : NP about Halal Animal Feed Guidelines
  • Tunisia : NP about Halal Food Additives

TC2 Halal Cosmetics Issues:

TC 2 discussed and amended the OIC/SMIIC DS.1 4 - Requirements for Halal Cosmetics Products according to the voting results and comments received and decided to submit the OIC/SMIIC FDS “Halal Cosmetics – General Requirements”.

TC3 Service Site Issues:

TC3 reviewed the WD-Particular requirements for the application of OIC/SMIIC 1 to places where Halal foods and beverages are prepared, stored and served by taking into consideration the Comments received by MBs, by considering comments and decided and decided to approve WD (N.5) to Committee Draft (CD) stage.

TC 3 approves mentioned WD (N.6) WD- Fuel stations and/or fuel service stations - General requirements for proceeding to the next stage (Committee Draft) and it will be circulated to MBs for comments.

TC5 Tourism and Related Services:

TC5 approved the business plan, the proposal of Tunisia regarding “Halal SPA Services” and Turkey on “Halal Management Systems-Hotel” and requested Member States to continue working on these as working draft documents.

TC6 Agricultural Products:

TC6 revised scope and business plan was approved. TC6 decided to work on the proposal from Iran regarding Saffron and Cotton from Sudan as a new work item committee work programme, and requested Iran and Sudan to prepare and submit the first Working Draft before the next meeting.

TC7 Transportation:

TC7 scope and business plan was approved. Possible new work item proposals were discussed, TC7 accepted the proposal of Saudi Arabia to send National Standards on Motorbikes.

TC 8 Leather and Tanning Material:

Scope was revised. TC 8 requests a nominee from Pakistan for Chairman. The proposal of Pakistan on requirements for Halal leather and tannıng process as a new work item in the committee work programme was approved and requests from Pakistan to prepare and submit the first Working Draft before the next meeting.

TC9 Textile and Related Products:

TC9 approved the following Pakistan’s proposals of Ihram Dress, Baby Diapers and Sanitary Pads with working drafts as new projects (committee drafts) under the committee’s working programme. TC9 requests a nominee from Pakistan for Chairman.

TC10 Halal Supply Chain:

Dr. Halina Suzana Ja’afar was appointed chairman of the Committee. The scope of the Committee was revised and draft Strategic business plan discussed, which will be circulated to members for commenting.

TC11 Halal Management Systems:

TC11 approved the scope, business plan and proposal of Turkey on Halal Management system as a new work item in the committee work programme and requests from Pakistan to prepare and submit the first Working Draft before the next meeting.

TC12 Dangerous Goods Transportation Requirements

TC12 approved the scope and business plan.

TC13 Jewellery:

Scope and Business plan was revised and approved. TC13 requests a nominee from Pakistan for Turkey and agrees that the committee will start working on possible projects on “Gold” metal.

TC14 Petroleum and Petroleum Products:

TC14 approved the title of the Committee and the revised scope. TC14 requested from the Committee Secretariat to prepare the draft strategic plan and send to the members for commenting. The Committee allocated Chairmanship to Saudi Arabia and requests a nominee from Saudi Arabia.

All committees requested from members to submit to the secretariats of the Committees New Work Item Proposals and is calling upon all SMIIC members to submit reference documents (national standards, technical specifications, etc.) that exist and that can form a basis for Standards.

 The next meetings for all the TC’s will be held during last week of March 2018.
