SMIIC Secretary General, H.E. İhsan ÖVÜT participated in 9th International Economic Summit “Russia — Islamic World: KazanSummit 2017” which was held on 18-20 May 2017 in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation.

Prior to the launching of the conference and sessions, Mr. ÖVÜT made the opening of 1st Russia Halal Expo together with the Mufti of Tatarstan, Mr. Kamil Khazrat Samigullin.

Mr. ÖVÜT, as one of keynote speakers, delivered a speech at the opening session of International Conference on Halal Industry. In his speech, Mr. ÖVÜT stressed the importance of trade, investment, and finance objectives in OIC Ten Years Programme of Action - 2025 and the role of SMIIC activities in its fields of study which are standardization, metrology, and accreditation in order to increase intra-OIC trade to the desired level. He also mentioned that Halal standards system is one of the key elements for economic growth and adoption of same halal standards and the establishment of a trustworthy certification system that is based on accreditation is what is needed to bring the economic boost for OIC member states and Muslim Communities.

Mr. ÖVÜT, after the opening session, participated in the press briefing on the Halal Industry International conference and answered the questions of the media representatives on the related subjects.

Mr. ÖVÜT also participated in the session with the theme of “Unified Halal Standards within the Framework of the OIC Members Cooperation” as moderator and also made presentation on the activities of SMIIC, role of SMIIC at Halal conformity assessment activities and on OIC/SMIIC Halal Food Standards,

A Cooperation Agreement was also signed between “Halal” Standard Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan and SMIIC.
