Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI)

Father of the nation, Bongabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was Minister of the Government of United Front of the Ministry of Industries, Commerce, Labour, anticorruption and Rural development in 1956. Bongabondhu laid the foundation of the development of Industries of the former East Pakistan i.e today’s Bangladesh. It resulted in formation of Bangladesh Standards Institution (BDSI) in Post-Independence Era of Bangladesh. His earnest will brought the BDSI membership of ISO in 1974. Later the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution Ordinances XXXVII of 1985 gave the birth of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Industries through the merger of BDSI and Central Testing Laboratories (CTL). Afterwards in 1995 Department of Agricultural grading and marketing of Ministry of Commerce was also merged into BSTI.
