The Lebanese Standards Institution (LIBNOR)
The Lebanese Standards Institution (LIBNOR) is a public independent institution under the tutelage of the minister of Industry. It was established by a law dated 23-7-1962 giving it solely the right to prepare, publish and amend national standards, as well as to grant the Lebanese Conformity Mark NL and represent Lebanon Regionally and internationally in the field of standards.

Lebanese standards are prepared by technical committees formed by LIBNOR for this purpose.

Lebanese standards are voluntary in principle. However, for reasons of public health, public safety or national interest, a standard can be rendered mandatory by a decree from the council of ministers.

LIBNOR provides training and consultancy on standards and has an information center acting as the WTO/TBT enquiry point.

LIBNOR is a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO), an Affiliate Member of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), member of SMIIC (Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic countries, as well as the Codex Alimentarius Contact Point in Lebanon.
